The Ops Con
Foundations of Safe Operations in Austere & High-Risk Environments - A full-day foundation course introducing structured risk mitigation, travel security awareness and safe operational planning for journalists, NGOs and expeditionary professionals working in austere and high-risk environments.
About This Course
S.E.N.T.I.N.E.L Level 1 is the formal entry point into The Ops Con’s Strategic Environment Navigation & Threat Intelligence framework. Designed for journalists, producers, fixers, NGO personnel, security professionals and expeditionary leaders, this course introduces the core principles required to operate safely and responsibly in complex environments. This is an academic and theory-based training day focused on structured preparation, decision-making frameworks and operational awareness rather than tactical field exercises. Participants will explore the professional realities of working alongside media teams, humanitarian organisations and expeditionary groups operating in unstable or high-risk locations. Key areas covered include risk mitigation and deployment planning, travel security awareness, operational behaviour in austere environments, legal responsibilities, equipment considerations and vehicle safety planning. The course is delivered by experienced operational professionals and establishes the foundation required to progress through the wider S.E.N.T.I.N.E.L Programme. In-person delivery is limited to small cohorts to ensure depth of discussion and instructor access.
