Three things worth your time this morning.
In Ukraine, UN monitors recorded at least 372 civilians killed and 2,349 injured in August, and say most casualties from missiles and long-range drones fell in cities far from the front line. Attacks on some of the country's largest retail, food and logistics companies rose to at least 32, from 11 in July. The FCDO's updated warnings now tell travellers to follow train evacuation instructions as well as air raid alerts. Treat the cities as inside the strike envelope and brief the shelter drill before every rail move.
In Syria, the UN's Deputy Special Envoy told the Security Council on 17 September that sharp fuel price rises had triggered demonstrations and roadblocks across several parts of the country. He also reported clashes in Sweida on 1 September and near-daily Israeli incursions, checkpoints and home searches in southern Syria, particularly Quneitra and western Daraa. Build alternate routes and time buffers into any movement.
For European travel, the FCDO says air traffic controllers at Charleroi Airport have announced strikes every night between 10pm and 8am from Wednesday 16 September, expected to continue until Saturday 10 October. If a principal is flying through Charleroi late or early, have a fallback ready.
