DR Congo: an Ebola transit centre at Kigonze camp burned down on Tuesday evening, UN News reported on 1 October. The camp had sheltered some 19,000 people and now lies abandoned after reports that soldiers entered it searching for weapons and suspected armed group members. In North Kivu, two people involved in the Ebola response were reportedly killed in Lubero on 27 September and 28 September. UN News reports more than 8,000 confirmed cases across seven provinces.
Aviation: the UN Secretary-General said on 30 September he is "deeply concerned by the serious incident involving a Tel Aviv-bound FlyDubai flight" and "relieved that tragedy was averted". The UN statement does not describe the incident; it thanks the authorities concerned for conducting their investigation.
Travel advice changes: the FCDO added information on 1 October about mandatory inbound travel insurance for arrivals into mainland Tanzania, updated its Ebola screening information for Nigeria on 28 September, and on 1 October removed its Hurricane Polo information for Mexico. In Brazil, the first round of the elections is on Sunday 4 October, and the FCDO advises avoiding political rallies.
