Two threat and risk items today, both centred on Daesh-linked activity in and around Africa.
In Mozambique, the FCDO continues to advise against all travel to most of Cabo Delgado and to named districts of Nampula and Niassa. IS-Mozambique, a group linked to Daesh, remains active there, and the FCDO warns of an acute kidnap threat in which British nationals, including business travellers, are seen as legitimate targets.
Separately, on 4 September the UN Security Council amended its ISIL sanctions listings, naming the ISIL-K leader based in Afghanistan and a Ugandan facilitator financing and recruiting for ISIL across East and Southern Africa. Both now face an assets freeze, travel ban and arms embargo.
