Somalia and the Gulf of Aden: the IMO said on 2 October that three hijacked ships, the HONOUR 25, SEAMULL and EUREKA, have been freed with 44 seafarers, but that five seafarers reportedly died during the rescue of the HONOUR 25 on 29 September. Twenty-two seafarers remain held aboard the ASANA. Full story in today's lead.

Yemen: renewed fighting between Government forces and Houthi rebels along the southwestern coast has forced nearly 150,000 people from their homes, UN News reported on 2 October, citing the World Food Programme. UN News reports that the fighting has cut off access to parts of Taiz and Hudaydah, and at least 3,700 Yemenis have crossed the Bab al-Mandab Strait to Djibouti.

Peru: the FCDO added information on 2 October about local elections on Sunday 4 October. It says increased numbers of people are expected around polling stations and electoral institutions on the day and in the days after, and advises staying away from large gatherings or protests.
