In the UK, the Firearms (Amendment) Rules 2026 come into force on Tuesday 29 September. Firearm and shotgun certificate holders in England, Wales and Scotland must tell the police without undue delay about a new diagnosis, worsening symptoms or treatment outside their GP practice for a relevant medical condition. Old-form applications must reach the police by 29 October. Our second piece sets out the new condition.
In the West Bank, the UN human rights office says Israeli bulldozers demolished homes, farm buildings, water tanks and solar panels in Jinba in Masafer Yatta on Wednesday 23 September, and that three other villages in the area were almost entirely destroyed in September. Its head in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, Ajith Sunghay, said: "The forcible transfer of a civilian population from their land by an occupying power is a war crime." The UN aid office says demolitions have displaced 1,500 people in the West Bank so far this year.
In Haiti, the UN migration agency records nearly 1.5 million people displaced, almost 80 per cent of them now outside Port-au-Prince, and says attacks in Kenscoff have displaced more than 4,000 people. At the UN General Assembly, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé said the gang suppression force remains below its target strength and called for its mandate to be renewed.
