Two hard exclusions dominate the East Africa desk today. South Sudan stays under an FCDO all-travel ban while the Security Council warns that its peace deal is fraying, more than half the population faces crisis-level hunger, and aid workers are being killed and abducted. Next door, Sudan holds its all-travel ban into a fourth year of war, with the UN counting 14 million people displaced and 21 million in acute hunger. Both are standing exclusions where the operative risk is the collapse of order and the targeting of humanitarian movement, not a discrete incident.

Closer to home, the UK terrorism threat level stays at severe, meaning an attack is highly likely, and the threat to Northern Ireland from Northern Ireland-related terrorism stays at substantial. Neither level carries an expiry date and both can move at any time.

The line for teams: the East African picture is a hard-exclusion zone to plan around rather than a headline to watch, and the UK baseline is unchanged from recent days.
