Three things worth your time today.

Gulf. The FCDO tightened its United Arab Emirates advice on 24 July over regional tensions, citing recent strikes and retaliatory attacks by Iran. It records strikes and retaliation since 8 July in a number of locations across the region against US military and civilian infrastructure, and warns of possible flight cancellations and airspace closures. It does not advise against travel to the UAE. Operator read: plan the air corridor, not the ground, and build alternate routing into Gulf legs.

Homeland. The government announced a record ยฃ251 million over three years, on 13 July, to protect Jewish communities in England and Wales, distributed through police forces and covering synagogues, schools, community centres and neighbourhoods. A sustained, funded demand signal for protective security at faith and community sites.

Threat level. The UK national terrorism threat level remains SEVERE, meaning an attack is highly likely. JTAC raised it from SUBSTANTIAL on 30 April 2026, citing a rising Islamist and Extreme Right Wing threat from individuals and small groups, and a backdrop of state-linked threats including against the Jewish community.
