Ethiopia

The FCDO revised its Ethiopia advice on 7 October. Its passage on reported attacks, including possible drone attacks, on military installations now names Addis Ababa, and it advises staying away from military sites and not touching debris. Full story in today's lead.

Saudi Arabia and Yemen

At the UN noon briefing on 7 October, the spokesperson condemned "the continued Houthi cross-border attacks against Saudi Arabia, including the recent attacks in Jazan, Najran, as well as the attacks reported earlier today near Riyadh, and the airport there." The UN, citing the International Organization for Migration, said there are "more than 184,000 people displaced since 1 August, including over 21,000 in the past week alone" in Yemen. The FCDO's Saudi Arabia advice already warns of "a heightened threat against airports, military bases, ports and energy infrastructure across Saudi Arabia". Teams moving principals through Riyadh should plan for short-notice disruption.

United Kingdom

The SIA has said in an FOI response that "816 learners SIA licence linked qualifications have been withdrawn by BIIAB", and that there have been 65 visits to BIIAB-approved training providers between January 2024 and August 2026. Full story in today's regulation piece.

The UK and Germany are committing to a counter-hybrid threat partnership to share information and "monitor, deter and disrupt threats", including cyber-attacks, sabotage and threats to critical infrastructure. The Prime Minister said: "Attacks on our infrastructure, our businesses and our democracies are not a distant threat." The UK national threat level remains severe.
