DR Congo

A nurse working in the Ebola response was killed by protesters in Bafwasende, Tshopo province, on 24 October, UN News reported. The UN's senior Ebola coordinator, Julien Harneis, condemned the attack and called for a thorough investigation. The UN noon briefing said a health centre in Kisangani was looted the next day, according to local sources.

Proscription

The Home Office published its proscription policy and process statement on 26 October, under the Crime and Policing Act 2026. It sets out the test, the process and the offences, and records three July designations of bodies involved in foreign power threat activity, including the IRGC. It announces no new proscription.

Somalia

The UN Transitional Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNTMIS) ends operations on 31 October at the Federal Government's request, its functions passing to Somali institutions and UN agencies. The Secretary-General called for continued support to address the threat from Al-Shabaab and a gradual, sustainable security transition.

Ukraine

The UN Commission of Inquiry on Ukraine found that Russian authorities committed war crimes by intentionally directing attacks against civilian objects, including heating and power, UN News reported on 26 October. It also cited "compelling evidence" that men trafficked from 29 countries were recruited into the Russian armed forces.

Yemen

The UN said on 26 October that more than 280,000 people have been displaced across Yemen since the beginning of August, almost half of them from Taiz, where shortages of medicine, fuel and water in Taiz city are raising the risk of disease outbreaks.

Lebanon

UN peacekeepers reported that around 60 rounds of gunfire struck the protective barriers of a UN position in Sector East on Friday 23 October. The UN did not say who fired. Peacekeepers also reported continued Israeli overflights, air strikes, and artillery and mortar fire from Friday to Sunday.

Iran and the US

In Cairo on 26 October, the Secretary-General called for maximum restraint and diplomatic solutions in the tension between Iran and the United States. He said navigational rights must be fully restored in and around the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait at the mouth of the Red Sea.
