Ops Con Intelligence

Two items for the desk today.

DRC. The FCDO's current advice, last updated 26 August 2026, advises against all travel to the seven eastern provinces of Haut-Uele, Ituri, North Kivu, South Kivu, Maniema, Tanganyika and Haut-Lomami, where Daesh-linked ADF fighters attack villages, military targets and soft sites, and where Goma is seeing more robbery and banditry after dark. The fresh line is in the capital: the FCDO now flags protests planned in Kinshasa on 15 September, so any task through the city in mid-September should plan around that date and the districts the advisory already tells operators to avoid.

Kenya. The FCDO refreshed its Kenya advice on 1 September and keeps a firm frame on the north and coast: advise against all travel to Mandera, to Lamu County outside Lamu and Manda Islands, and to within 60km of the Somalia border. It says the main terrorist threat is al-Shabaab, warns of a high threat of terrorist kidnap across the country, and names business travellers among the British nationals seen as legitimate targets. Nairobi and the resort circuits carry the soft-target risk; the border band is route-around ground.
