The Brief: Wednesday 19 August 2026

Two threads lead the board this morning, one operational and one regulatory, against a UK threat level that stays at severe.

The first is the West Bank. The FCDO holds all-travel bans on the three northern governorates, Tulkarm, Jenin and Tubas, and advises against all but essential travel across the rest of the territory bar a short list of exceptions. UN News reported on 11 August that 1,122 Palestinians had been killed in the occupied West Bank since 7 October 2023, 76 of them this year, with the UN human rights office describing the violence as at an all-time high. For protective teams the north is the hard-exclusion flashpoint, and the trend is toward less predictable movement, not more.

The second is regulatory, and it lands close to home for operators. The SIA has ended its recognition of the awarding body BIIAB, effective 10 August, over breaches it says cannot be remedied. Qualifications awarded before that date still count within the usual window, but anyone mid-course, and any firm booking or funding training, should confirm which recognised awarding organisation issues the certificate.

The working details for both are in today's threat-risk and regulation posts.
