Two threads run through today's edition, and both come back to medical readiness in the field.

First, movement risk. The FCDO updated its South Sudan travel advice on 25 August 2026, adding Ebola health-screening information as a Bundibugyo-species outbreak in neighbouring DR Congo and Uganda reaches areas near the border. South Sudan was already a do-not-travel country for armed violence and criminality, so this is a health-security layer on an existing high-risk picture: land-border temperature checks, a health declaration form now requested at Juba airport, and heightened onward screening elsewhere. Any plan through the DRC, Uganda and South Sudan tri-border now needs a screening contingency built in.

Second, readiness. The Resuscitation Council UK's 2025 guidelines, published in October, put life-threatening bleeding at the very front of the primary assessment, and the SIA's refresher has made a valid first aid qualification part of CP licence renewal since April. The two developments meet in the same place: the operator who is first on scene, with the right kit and the current training to use it.

Full detail on both is in today's threat and risk and tradecraft and kit posts.
