Haiti: the UN Security Council on 29 September renewed the Gang Suppression Force for six months, to 31 March 2027, by 12 votes to none with China, Pakistan and the Russian Federation abstaining. Haiti's representative said the Force still needs the personnel, equipment and capabilities to become fully operational. The FCDO continues to advise against all travel to Haiti. Brazil: the FCDO added election guidance to its Brazil advice on 29 September. The first round of the general election is on 4 October, with a second round scheduled for 25 October. The FCDO warns that even peaceful events "can become confrontational and may turn violent" and advises avoiding political rallies, protests and demonstrations. Full story in today's edition.
Democratic Republic of the Congo: the head of the UN mission, MONUSCO, told the Security Council on 29 September that fighting continues in North Kivu between the M23 and its allies, which he said are supported by Rwanda, and the Congolese armed forces and their allies, and that increasing use of heavy weapons in South Kivu is causing displacement and disrupting humanitarian aid. He reported 1,537 documented human rights abuses since his last briefing, and 6.1 million people internally displaced.
Tanzania: the FCDO updated its Tanzania entry guidance on 29 September. Heightened health screening measures are no longer in place for travellers arriving from Uganda, but remain for those arriving from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The same page says mpox temperature screening applies at all points of entry into Tanzania.
