The Security Industry Authority updated its enforcement report on 8 September 2026 to include figures for August. The report covers the regulator's criminal investigations, written warnings and improvement notices, and its enforcement operations.
In August the SIA opened 7 cases and closed 3, leaving 56 open investigations at month end. It recorded 31 businesses and 17 individuals under investigation. In July it opened 8 cases and closed 10. That makes 15 cases opened across July and August, against 13 across March, April, May and June combined.
The open caseload has moved up from 52 at the end of July, but remains below the 76 recorded at the end of August 2025. The number of individuals under investigation rose from 9 at the end of July to 17 at the end of August.
The SIA issued 1 written warning and no improvement notices in August, after 13 written warnings and 1 improvement notice in July.
Its August enforcement operations checked 70 premises across nine locations. The largest was Belfast City Centre, with 34 premises checked. The others were Newquay, Merseyside, Omagh, Winchester, London, Bridgwater and Minehead, Leeds and Towcester. Avon and Somerset Constabulary was the only enforcement partner recorded, on the Bridgwater and Minehead operation.
For security businesses, the report is a useful monthly read on where the regulator is putting inspection effort. The report gives counts only and does not say what the new cases concern.
