Kenya

The FCDO updated its Kenya advice on 6 November and now advises against all but essential travel to Moyale Town and up to 5km around it, including to the border with Ethiopia. Our post of 31 October covered stray gunfire and disruption at the crossing and the instruction to stay on the A2 road, and did not report an advise-against area on the Kenyan side, so that is the change. The Regional risks page now says: "Since October 2026, violence in the Ethiopian town of Moyale has affected the border area, including on the Kenyan side." It reports "stray gunfire, unexploded ordnance and projectiles landing in and up to 3km around the Kenyan town of Moyale, resulting in fatalities and injuries" and says the "security situation remains unpredictable and could deteriorate without warning." The page still tells vehicles to stay on the A2 and drive directly to Marsabit, no longer mentions the Sololo rest house, and now adds that anyone crossing should stay alert and follow the instructions of local authorities. The unexploded ordnance, projectiles and reported deaths and injuries are also new since our 31 October post, which reported stray gunfire only. The page gives no casualty numbers and does not say who is fighting.

Democratic Republic of the Congo

UN News reported on 6 November that at least 30 civilians were killed overnight on Thursday in Beni Territory, North Kivu, according to local sources cited by the UN aid coordination office (OCHA). It says local authorities attributed the attack to the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), according to news reports, and that homes were burnt and a health centre was destroyed, killing several patients. The article says the violence has disrupted the Ebola response: people who had been in contact with Ebola patients reportedly fled an observation centre, and response teams were forced to suspend operations. It does not say who the dead were beyond civilians, and the attribution to the ADF is the local authorities' as reported, not a UN finding.

Cameroon

The FCDO updated its Cameroon advice on 6 November. The Entry requirements page says: "In response to the current Ebola outbreak in DRC, you may be required to undergo thermal screening on arrival at Nsimalen International Airport and Douala International Airport. These measures are subject to change at short notice." It gives no end date and does not say whether other airports apply.

Afghanistan

UN News reported on 6 November that Bruno Lemarquis, the UN's Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Afghanistan, warned that needs are expected to rise in 2027 as funding falls. UN News says the humanitarian response reached $2 billion in 2023 and $1 billion in 2025, and "so far in 2026 it has only amounted to $570 million, roughly a quarter of 2023 levels." It adds that 40 per cent of primary healthcare facilities are expected to close between 2025 and 2026. Mr Lemarquis said: "The consequences could go beyond the Afghanistan border, potentially affecting regional security, regional stability and migration pathways." The article is a humanitarian and rights briefing and reports no security incident or change in FCDO advice.
