The UN Spokesperson's daily briefing on 6 August relayed figures from the UN Interim Force in Lebanon, UNIFIL, that point to the sharpest escalation in the south for weeks. On 5 August peacekeepers recorded 113 projectiles fired by the Israel Defense Forces, the IDF, the highest daily figure since 21 June, and UNIFIL detected no projectile launches by Hizbullah over the same period. Between midnight and 16:00 local time on 6 August UNIFIL recorded a further 120 projectiles fired by the IDF, already exceeding the previous full day.
The air picture moved with it. Peacekeepers logged 49 airspace violations on 5 August, with cumulative overflight time above 131 hours, the highest since 23 June. By 16:00 on 6 August they had recorded another 29 violations and at least three confirmed airstrikes in the vicinity of Al Mansuri. UNIFIL also said it was aware of extensive media reporting that two IDF soldiers were killed and several others injured in an explosion in the Al Mansuri area, which it has not independently confirmed.
The humanitarian edge is already showing. Local authorities have reported that around 30 families have been displaced to the city of Tyre.
For anyone with movement, client tasking or standing commitments in south Lebanon, the read is a step change in tempo rather than a single incident. The activity is concentrated, with Al Mansuri a clear hotspot, and the strike and overflight levels are the highest in roughly six weeks. Teams should treat the south as sharply elevated, keep well clear of the areas around confirmed airstrikes, review evacuation and medical posture before any journey, and hold to a route and timing that can flex at short notice.
